Maybe it’s regional? I’ve always thought of them as different things. Tights are opaque (usually colored), pantyhose are sheer and you get them at the drugstore, nylons are classy shit that I can’t afford, etc. I agree pantyhose is a hideous word.
Is it regional? Hrmmm. I’ve always known nylons as “leg coverage that isn’t tights.”
And leggings are not acceptable as pants.
